Kono Clinic
Kono Amputee Clinic is a fully functioning primary care clinic, having logged over 2000 patient visit to-date.
This 60x30ft building includes 7 furnished rooms: Consultation room, triage and observation room, pharmacy, laboratory, waiting room, administrative area, and dorm room. Facilites include two bathrooms, one shower, electricity from a generator, one water well with reservoir system, and a security house. Clinic operates six days every week during business hours. Staff includes one doctor and two nurses.
In July 2008, malaria (54)*, acid reflux disease (44), and typhoid fever (25) were the three most common diagnoses from 358 patient visits. Patients have access to quality pharmaceuticals and receive laboratory results same day or next day. Moderately ill patients are treated in the triage and observation room, which has a three-patient maximal capacity. Staff have access to critical medical supplies, allowing them to administer intravenous therapies. Severely ill patient requiring multiple days of hospitalized care are referred to the government's district hospital located in Sefadu.
In March 2008, a community health survey was conducted in the nine communities of amputated civilians. Public health outreach will be driven from these results and incorporated into weekly staff duties in a fashion similar to the health outpost.
